How is Fios installed in your house?
What is the Procedure for FiOS Installation in the House?
To have FiOS Internet and TV service installed at home is very easy and normally takes four to six hours to complete. Here is a step-by-step overview of what you can expect during a standard FiOS installation.
Scheduling Your Appointment
After registering for FiOS service over the phone or online, you will select the installation date and time which is normally a 4-hour window. It is advisable to be as liberal as possible on the time factor since more opportunities are likely to be available. You will also receive a confirmation of your appointment through email and/or text.
The Day Before Your Appointment
Verizon technician will call you the day before the appointment to let you know the time slot to expect him/her. This is a good chance to raise any final questions that you may have about the installation procedure. Ensure pets are restrained and the entryway into your home is unobstructed.
The Initial Walkthrough
Your doorbell will ring within the timeframe indicated, and a Verizon technician will come in and state the tasks that they will be undertaking. They will then do a brief walk-through of your house to determine how they plan on routing cables and where to place the gear. If you are a tenant, they may seek prior consent from your landlord.
Spotting the Exterior of Your House
Your technician will step outside and assess how he or she will facilitate the cables from the telephone pole or underground cable box to your home. This might mean fixing a small box on the outside of the wall, making holes, putting cables through the windows or vents, etc If additional external cabling or equipment is required, they will inform you about it and get your consent.
Running Cable Lines
The FiOS technician will begin pulling fiber optic and copper cabling into your house and to the general vicinity of the router configuration. They may have to pull wires via the corridors or interior partitions, beneath the stairs, under the floors or over the ceiling, or even in the basement, the attic, or the garage. The technician will ensure that the number of holes on the wall and floor is kept to the lowest by taking advantage of preexisting cable lines and holes.
This process involves the installation of the Optical Network Terminal.
After the cabling is done the FiOS technician will then install the Optical Network Terminal (ONT). This small box (approximately the size of a videocassette) is used to translate the light signals from fiber optic lines into electrical signals required for internet, television, and phone connections. The ONT uses an outdoor grounding wire and needs a power outlet nearby to work properly.
Connecting the FiOS Router
Verizon technician, who will be installing the FiOS router will assess the area where the FiOS router should be placed considering cable routing, power outlet availability, coverage required by the WiFi connection, and appearance of the FiOS router. It will be enough to install an Ethernet cable connecting one of its ends to the ONT box and another one to the router. They may also require the cables to be plugged into a splitter to work with TVs.
Activating Your FiOS Service
Your Verizon technician will then perform installations of the cables and mounting of the respective hardware after which your internet, TV, and phone connection will be activated and checked for functionality as required. They will ensure that the signal strength of the WiFi is optimum where required or check that the channels/subscribed speeds are properly set. This usually takes between 10-15 minutes depending on the complexity of the questions to be answered.
TV Set Up
If you ordered FiOS TV, your technician can help you set up existing TV equipment like smart TVs, streaming devices, or gaming consoles with the FiOS One mini boxes. They may adjust some channel parameters, ensure that you can navigate through the IPG, answer questions about streaming apps, and/or learn how to synch the FiOS remote with your television.
Wrapping Up the Install
At the end of the installation, the technician will then manage the cords/cables, gather whatever tool or equipment is not needed, and dispose of any trash on hand. You can be certain to get a brief orientation on the equipment and your service offerings. This is the last chance for you to ask your tech any questions you might have, while they take you through the facility.
There is nothing worse than following up after your tech leaves and realizing that nobody knows who you are, and they have no record of your ever being there.
After the technician leaves, ensure that everything is in order no tools/cables are left behind and all services are functioning as they should. If you have any problems arranging your accommodation or if some questions arise after you have made the booking, do not hesitate to contact customer service. Note that it may take up to 12 hours for on-demand content and programming guide data to be fully populated.
Though each home install is somewhat different, this should give you a basic idea of what the major steps are when getting Verizon FiOS service installed. Just remember to plan with your technician and everything should go as planned! They should be informed of any difficult home situations so they can be prepared and can help with the solutions. If your FiOS install is going smoothly, it is clean, and you have a fast internet connection and home entertainment services.
