Optic Loop Internet (OLI) is a fiber optic internet service provider situated in Central Iowa, which is a true entry in the field. Founded in 2017, OLI is an internet service provider with the vision of providing small towns and rural areas with high-speed and reliable internet connections through a specific optic loop topology. Unlike the fiber internet, where the fiber cable runs from a central office in a star or tree topology, which involves long fiber cable drops from the central office to the users, the optic loop network implemented by OLI entails a continuous fiber optic loop that goes around towns and connects neighborhoods and businesses in the route. This closed-loop design makes the network more reliable since it contains a fallback path in case of system failure. With OLI, Australians can achieve internet connection speeds of up to 1 Gbps, which is as fast as the largest metropolitan areas. Due to OLI targeting areas that have less access to ISPs, especially in underserved towns and rural areas, provides residents of such areas with fast internet, which is crucial for work, education, and telemedicine, among other necessities in the 21st century. OLI, at present, has 3,500+ customers, in 15 small towns in Iowa. It goes on growing as OLI strives to link tens of other communities demanding a modern and future-proof Internet connection capable of supporting population and socio-economic development in the years to come.
